For Computer Aided Engineering, a master’s level course at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, our student group designed a new tower design for an onshore turbine capable of 9.25MW.
Analysis was performed on a straight taper and curved taper tower design. Additionally, a baseplate flange that supports the tower was designed to meet requirements. The baseplate is six inches thick and utilizes 144 ASTM325 bolts to secure the tower to a concrete pile foundation.
